Interesting, I hadn't considered stoicism in the context of the conquering Roman empire, but it totally makes sense. How much of our scholarship has been in the service of power and remains to this day. I don't want to discount stoicism entirely though. There are things you can change, and should. But not everything can be changed. And sometimes we make ourselves into mini-gods by assuming, through technology, we can change things that simply cannot be changed. It's a balance and it's different for everyone.
